US Withdraws Nominee to Lead BIS Export Administration

The Trump administration has withdrawn the nomination for Landon Heid to be the assistant secretary for export administration at the Bureau of Industry and Security. Steven Haines is serving in that role on an interim basis as he awaits Senate confirmation as assistant secretary for industry and analysis within the International Trade Administration, according to a BIS official. Spokespeople for BIS and the White House didn't respond to requests for comment.

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

During his nomination hearing in April, Heid floated the idea of a 50% rule for the Entity List, which could impose stringent license requirements on entities majority-owned by parties on the Entity List (see 2504100036). A BIS official said in June that the agency was working on a rule to implement that change (see 2506100047).

In addition to a permanent chief of export administration, BIS is still awaiting confirmation of David Peters to lead the Office of Export Enforcement.
