The Consumer Product Safety Commission is amending its mandatory safety standard for residential garage door openers to reflect changes to an industry voluntary standard, it said in a final rule. Under the proposal, CPSC’s Safety Standard for Automatic Residential Garage Door Operators would be changed to include updates made in 2016 and 2017 to entrapment protection provisions in the Underwriters Laboratories’ UL 325 standard. The final rule takes effect Sept. 11.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is setting a new mandatory safety standard for children’s booster seats used for eating or feeding, it said in a final rule. The proposed rule would incorporate into CPSC’s regulations the most recent voluntary industry standard for booster seats developed by ASTM International, ASTM F2640-18, "Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Booster Seats," without any changes. The new safety standard takes effect Jan. 2, 2020.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is setting a new children’s product safety standard for baby changing products. The agency’s final rule adopts as mandatory the latest voluntary industry standard on high chairs, ASTM F2388-18. Though the proposed standard issued by CPSC in 2016 included some changes from the industry standard in place at the time (see 1609290010), the latest version of the standard addresses CPSC’s concerns and is being adopted without modification.
