President Donald Trump has nominated Citi executive Jonathan Burke to be the Treasury Department’s assistant secretary for terrorist financing, the White House told the Senate June 2.
Former Bureau of Industry and Security Undersecretary Alan Estevez has joined the board of directors of Almonty Industries, a tungsten mining and production company. Almonty CEO Lewis Black said Estevez's "firsthand experience in acquisition, contracting, and supply chain operations will be especially relevant as we advance our position as a key allied supplier of tungsten." Estevez also became a senior adviser for Covington & Burling after leaving BIS earlier this year (see 2505120044).
Gregory Dunlap, a former special agent in charge of the Bureau of Industry and Security's Office of Export Enforcement, has joined Akin as a senior regulatory adviser. Dunlap most recently oversaw export controls and sanctions investigations at BIS and also worked at DOJ for more than eight years, including in the National Security Division.
Adam Small, a former trial lawyer in DOJ's Counterintelligence and Export Control Section who prosecuted export control and sanctions cases, is joining GE Aerospace as senior counsel, he announced on LinkedIn. Small left DOJ this month after first joining in 2011.
Matthew Olsen, who led DOJ’s National Security Division during the Biden administration, has joined WilmerHale as co-chair of the law firm's defense, national security and government contracts practice, he announced on LinkedIn. Olsen will advise on export controls, sanctions, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S., government investigations, congressional oversight and more.
Megan Barnhill, a former partner at Bryan Cave, has joined ArentFox Schiff as a partner in the international trade and investment practice, the firm announced. ArentFox said Barnhill focuses on issues involving trade, export controls, sanctions and reporting obligations under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.
Greg Pollock, a former senior Pentagon official, recently left the Defense Department after nearly two decades working on national security issues related to China, Russia and more, he announced May 21 on LinkedIn. Pollock was most recently the acting deputy assistant secretary of defense. He also served stints as the department's policy director for Russia and arms control policy and as an analyst in the Treasury Department's Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
Eun Young Choi, former deputy assistant attorney general in DOJ’s National Security Division, has joined Arnold & Porter. Choi will work in the firm’s practices focused on white collar defense and national security. Choi worked on a range of national security-related issues at DOJ, including sanctions and foreign investment reviews.
The Center for a New American Security has named Kurt Campbell, former deputy secretary of state, and Anne Neuberger, former deputy national security adviser, to its board of directors. Both Campbell and Neuberger join CNAS after serving in the Biden administration. Campbell helped oversee U.S. efforts to reduce defense trade restrictions with Australia and the U.K. under the AUKUS partnership (see 2404030050 and 2409180025) and worked on Russia-related sanctions issues (see 2407300033).
Josh Hodges, former national security adviser to House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., and Chris Slevin, chief of staff to Biden administration Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, have been appointed to the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission.
