The council sanctioned five individuals for their human rights violations, targeting members of the Russian judiciary who led the persecution of activist Alexei Gorinov. Gorinov is a former municipal deputy in the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow who was sentenced to three years in prison on "politically motivated charges" for speaking out against the war in Ukraine, the council said.
Nine individuals and six entities also were sanctioned for spreading misinformation abroad. The listed entities are the state-owned Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network, along with its general director and director of coordination of communications infrastructure development in new territories; the 841st Separate Electronic Warfare Center; the BRICS Journalists Association; the Foundation to Battle Injustice; and the Center for Geopolitical Expertise.
The misinformation-related sanctions also include "various propagandists" and Yevgeny Shevchenko along with his "web-company Tigerweb." Social media influencer Nathalie Yamb also was sanctioned.
