Republican Study Committee Launches “Enforcing Maximum Pressure” Initiative to Hold the Iranian Regime Accountable
WASHINGTON DC - Today, the Republican Study Committee unveiled a bold initiative called “Enforcing Maximum Pressure: Holding Iran Accountable” to counter the Iranian regime and its rising aggression in the Middle East. Included in this initiative is the Maximum Pressure Act, introduced by RSC National Security Task Force Chair Zach Nunn (IA-03) to codify President Trump’s successful maximum pressure campaign on Iran into law. This legislation would ensure that no future Democrat administration can reverse this crucial national security policy. The Maximum Pressure Act is the toughest Iran sanctions package proposed by Congress. Sanctions in the legislation would obstruct Iran’s ability to fund terrorism throughout the Middle East, sanction the Supreme Leader of Iran, and force the President of the United States to enforce sanctions on Iranian oil sales. RSC members introduced critical pieces of legislation as a part of this effort:
These bills aim to eliminate Iran’s malign influence across the globe and protect America. A full list of bills in the package can be found HERE. “For too long, Iran’s regime of terror reigned over the Middle East and targeted American interests with no fear of repercussions from the United States. That ends now,” said Rep. Zach Nunn. “President Trump has made it clear that Iran’s direct assaults on global security and American leadership will no longer go unanswered. We must apply maximum pressure on the Iranian regime to defend our interests and protect American lives.” During today’s announcement, RSC Chairman Pfluger added: “The Republican Study Committee isn't just talking tough here…we're delivering a clear message to Tehran: America is BACK, your terror funding days are NUMBERED, and your regime will face consequences that even the Ayatollah can't pray away.” The press conference featured a powerful lineup of leaders, including RSC Chairman August Pfluger, RSC National Security Task Force Chair Zach Nunn, RSC Vice-Chair Ben Cline, Congressman Bryan Steil, Congressman Greg Steube, Congressman Joe Wilson, Congresswoman Claudia Tenney, Congressman Marlin Stutzman, Congressman Troy Downing, Congressman Nick Begich, Congressman Don Bacon, Congressman Randy Weber, and Congressman Abe Hamadeh. |
