Partner at Sparacino PLLC / Former Acting United States Attorney, EDVA

Nearly nine years ago in March 2016, I was asked to help prosecute a terrorism case in EDVA, which took me to Iraq and later went to trial here. That experience forever changed my career because it allowed me to call this storied district home and to serve with the exceptionally talented EDVA and DOJ workforce, and with our law enforcement partners. Their dedication to the mission, the countless sacrifices they make to get the job done, unparalleled work ethic, and their care for each other, make EDVA a very special place. I never imagined in 2016 when I was assigned my first EDVA case that I would one day have the tremendous honor of serving as EDVA’s Acting U.S. Attorney for almost a year and for four years as First Assistant U.S. Attorney. I am extremely grateful to my mentors and countless others, including the supervisors, line AUSAs, and support staff with whom I worked and learned from. You all mean more to me than words can adequately describe. I am excited to announce that next week, I will join the law firm Sparacino PLLC as a Partner to lead the firm’s EDVA National Security Practice, which will focus on representing clients in federal cases brought on behalf of individual and corporate victims of terrorism, trafficking, fraud (with a national security nexus), cybercrime, and ransomware attacks, among other national security-related areas. My departure is entirely unrelated to current events and my one-year detail appointment as the Chief of Corporate Enforcement at the U.S. Department of Commerce (which has been a great experience and I am very thankful for my colleagues there as well) would have continued if it were not for this unique opportunity in the private sector. Thank you to everyone with whom I have been privileged to serve over the course of nearly 14 years in public service for everything you have done, and continue to do, to advance the cause of justice on behalf of the United States. It has been the greatest honor of my career to serve with you. https://lnkd.in/eD-xQX2A

Congratulations! Like everyone else, while your dedication and expertise were immediately apparent, it was the kindness and approachability you brought to being a leader that left a lasting impression on me. Totally unsurprising that, even in private practice, your work is still an act of service -- best of luck!

Congratulations, Raj! Back in 2017, you and the folks at EDVA showed me what it's like to show up to work every day excited to serve the public alongside other passionate public servants. That experience and acts of mentorship like your willingness to chat about your path to EDVA and the Khweis prosecution contributed to my decision to begin my legal career in public service today. Thank you for meaningfully impacting my career and for your service, and good luck in your next role.
