Senator Renews Push to Pass Sanctions Bill for Georgian Democracy
Senate Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., said Aug. 7 that she plans to “redouble” her efforts to enact a bill to sanction officials who undermine democracy in the Republic of Georgia.

Shaheen said she remains concerned by the Georgian government’s "erosion of democratic values" and its pivot toward Russia.
The Foreign Relations Committee approved the Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence Act, or the Megobari Act, in March (see 2503270032). But it remains pending in the full Senate, which has left town for the August congressional recess. The House approved the bill in May (see 2505060054).
