The Consumer Product Safety Commission seeks comments on the small business impact of its regulatory requirements or third-party testing and certification of children’s products, it said in a notice published Aug. 24. The comments will inform a review of the regulations required within 10 years of their issuance in 2011, CPSC said. “The CPSC seeks comment to determine whether, consistent with the CPSC's statutory obligations, these regulations should be maintained without change, or modified to minimize the significant impact of the rules on a substantial number of small entities,” it said. Comments are due Oct. 23.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission will allow more time for compliance with a recently issued final rule that updated its safety standard for hand-held infant carriers to incorporate the latest revisions to the ASTM voluntary industry standard, a notice released July 30 said. The final rule was to take effect Aug. 3. It will now take effect Jan. 1, 2021. CPSC decided to extend the deadline as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, because “disruptions in the U.S. economy may limit manufacturers’ ability to comply with the new labeling requirements of ASTM F2050-19.”
