The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a direct final rule Sept. 2 amending its safety standard for infant bouncer seats to incorporate the latest revisions to the ASTM voluntary industry standard, it said. The changes are effective Dec. 19, unless CPSC receives a “significant adverse” comment by Oct. 6.

Segway Powersports will pay a $1.25 million penalty to resolve charges that it knowingly imported All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs) without a CPSC-approved ATV action plan in place at the time of importation, the CPSC said in a recent news release. The commission assessed a total penalty of $5 million for Segway’s importation of 152 ATVs, suspending $3.75 million of the penalty in light of potential financial hardship for the company.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission recently issued two proposed rules that would codify the bans enacted by Congress in 2021 on crib bumpers and inclined sleepers for infants. Under the proposed rules, the bans would take effect Nov. 12, and no grace period would be allowed for banned products sitting in inventory. Comments are due Aug. 25.
