China Select Committee Democrats Push Stronger Export Controls on China

The Democratic minority on the House Select Committee on China said in a new report Nov. 4 that the U.S. and its allies should strengthen their export controls to prevent China from using their technology for repression.

The report says China seeks to “leverage access to cutting-edge innovations by U.S. and allied companies” to help it crack down on human rights at home and promote authoritarianism abroad.

Although the report offers no specific export control recommendations, Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., the committee’s ranking member, has endorsed tighter restrictions on exports of advanced AI chips to China (see 2510300044 and 2508220015).
