Taiwan Looking Into Local Company Added to BIS Entity List
Taiwan is probing the business credentials of a Taiwanese company added to the Bureau of Industry and Security's Entity List earlier this month (see 2509120077), Taiwan's International Trade Administration said, according to an unofficial translation. The company, Shanghai Fudan Microelectronics, is a "representative office of a Hong Kong company in Taiwan," and an "investigation revealed that the representative office does not possess import and export qualifications," Taiwan said. "The Ministry of Economic Affairs will further verify whether the representative office's actual operations are consistent with its original application."

BIS added the company to the Entity List for acquiring and attempting to acquire U.S.-origin items for China's military modernization, participating in China's advanced computing and chip manufacturing and distribution sectors, and supplying the "military, government, and security apparatus" of China.
Taiwan urged businesses to carry out due diligence before doing business with companies that may be subject to trade restrictions. "The Ministry of Economic Affairs reiterates that, in order to fulfill international obligations to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, entities subject to international sanctions for assisting in arms proliferation activities may also be included in Taiwan's entity list," it said. "The Ministry therefore calls on businesses to conduct due diligence when exporting goods, including verifying the end user and intended use."
