Lawmaker Calls on BIS to Ease Export Controls on Syria Soon
Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, urged the Bureau of Industry and Security on Aug. 11 to “move quickly” to remove its export controls on Syria to help the country recover from a 14-year civil war.

Wilson wants to ensure that Syria does business with the U.S., not China. “Leaving these export controls on the books only benefits China,” he wrote on X.
An executive order that President Donald Trump signed June 30 authorizes the "relaxation" of export controls against Syria, and BIS is developing a final rule along those lines (see 2506300055 and 2507090015). “President Trump’s vision is clear and should not be further delayed!” Wilson said.
