Carrier's Missteps Caused Shipping Delays, Financial Losses, Complaint Says

International Wood Group (IWG) and Honest Trading International accused DB Schenker, a non-vessel operating common carrier and freight forwarder, of mismanaging five of their shipments since last year, causing them to incur “substantial” financial losses and hurting their ability to do business, according to a complaint filed with the Federal Maritime Commission Aug. 5.

Export Compliance Daily combines U.S. export control news, foreign border import regulation and policy developments into a single daily information service that reliably informs its trade professional readers about important current issues affecting their operations.

For one shipment, DB Schenker mishandled key shipping documents, such as by failing to properly endorse the bill of lading, the complaint says. This led to shipping delays, cargo abandonment, breach of letter of credit terms, “significant financial harm,” and damage to the complainants' business reputation and commercial relationships.

For another shipment, “document mishandling, unjustified delays, and poor communication led to financial damages and disrupted shipment schedules, adversely affecting the complainants’ … operations and contractual obligations,” the complaint says.

IWG and Honest Trading are seeking about $169,000 in reparations. Denmark-based DSV, which recently acquired DB Schenker, declined to comment on the complaint.
