House Passes 6 Telecom Bills, Will Vote on Promoting Wireless Cybersecurity Bill
The House passed the Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act (HR-1618) and five other Commerce Committee-cleared telecom bills Monday on voice votes. The others: the Institute for Telecommunication Sciences Codification Act (HR-1455), Communications Security Act (HR-1717), Promoting U.S. Wireless Leadership Act (HR-1765), NTIA Policy and Cybersecurity Coordination Act (HR-1766) and Open Radio Access Networks Outreach Act (HR-2037). The chamber was also expected to vote as soon as Monday night on the Understanding Cybersecurity of Mobile Networks Act (HR-1709).

HR-1455 would provide statutory authority for ITS’ role in managing NTIA’s telecom and spectrum technology programs. HR-1618 would require the FCC to review and potentially change satellite rules to promote precision agriculture. HR-1709 would require NTIA to report on the cybersecurity of wireless networks and vulnerabilities to cyberattacks and adversarial surveillance. HR-1717 would codify the Communications Security, Reliability and Interoperability Council. HR-1765 would direct NTIA to encourage U.S. companies and others to participate in international standards-setting bodies. HR-1766 would create an Office of Policy Development and Cybersecurity within NTIA. HR-2037 would direct NTIA to provide outreach and technical assistance to small communications network providers on how to use ORAN technologies.
