The bill is scheduled to undergo a subcommittee markup late on July 14 and a full committee markup July 17.
The FMC said in May that its budget request would provide “resources to carry out its responsibilities to ensure consistent industry oversight, enhanced enforcement, and improved service to the public and industry stakeholders.” The request is the same amount the agency received in both FY 2024 and FY 2025, even though an FMC official said in October that the commission needs more employees and funding to investigate and penalize violators of shipping laws (see 2410230046).
The Senate Appropriations Committee hasn't yet released its version of the transportation bill or announced a markup schedule for the legislation.
