Ways and Means Trade Chair Urges Agreements Negotiators to Push for Ag Market Access
The House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee chairman, 44 other House Republicans and Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., urged the U.S. trade representative, agriculture secretary, commerce secretary and treasury secretary to get trade partners to end digital services taxes, improve import quotas and lower tariffs in these quick negotiations, all issues that they said "we cannot delay addressing."

"We appreciate the administration’s swift negotiation of an agreement in principle with the United Kingdom which prioritizes agricultural market access, collaboration in industries key to national security, and continued engagement to address other bilateral trade barriers. The initial agreement secures unprecedented access to import quotas for key agricultural products, yet there are significant other tariff and non-tariff barriers that must continue to be addressed in the UK and with other trading partners to realize the full benefit of new access commitments," they wrote.
The letter noted that more than half of American soybeans, nearly half of wheat production and about 25% of pork are exported, but that the agricultural trade deficit persists.
