OFAC Sanctions 'Sham' Charities Supporting Hamas
The Office of Foreign Assets Control this week sanctioned various people and sham charities located abroad for being "prominent financial supporters" of the military and terrorist activities of Hamas. The people and charities help to fund the Hamas military wing "under the pretense of conducting humanitarian work," including aid work in Gaza, OFAC said.

The designations target the Gaza-based charity Al Weam Charitable Society, along with its board chairman, Muhammad Sami Muhammad Abu Marei, who OFAC called a Hamas "military operative." OFAC also sanctioned Turkey-based charity Filistin Vakfi and its president, Zeki Abdullah Ibrahim Ararawi; Algeria-based El Baraka Association for Charitable and Humanitarian Work and its president, Ahmed Brahimi; Netherlands-based Israa Charitable Foundation Netherlands and its representatives Amin Ghazi Abu Rashed and Israa Abou Rashed; West Bank-based Addameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association; and Italy-based Associazione Benefica La Cupola d’Oro.
