FCC Delays Deadline for 4.9 GHz Licensees to File Granular Data
The FCC announced Monday a 30-day extension of the June 9 deadline for current 4.9 GHz licensees to provide the agency with granular licensing data or face cancellation of their licenses. The new deadline is July 9.

“Submitting such data, particularly for complex systems, requires licensees to gather and enter accurate and precise technical parameters into applications to convert” their existing licenses “into PB or PF licenses,” said the order by the Public Safety and Wireless bureaus. The FCC clarified last year (see 2412090070) that licensees must use the universal licensing system “to create new licenses (with granular data) in newly-created radio service codes PB (public safety licensees performing base/mobile, mobile-only or temporary fixed operations) and PF (public safety licensees operating fixed links).”
“The Bureaus believe that giving these licensees limited additional time to collect technical parameters and submit that data [to the] ULS will likely improve the accuracy of the technical information the Commission receives, which will in turn increase the transparency of current operations in the band and thus improve interference protection for incumbents,” the order said.
