T-Mobile Updates Network Ahead of Hurricane and Wildfire Season

T-Mobile is making several changes to its network ahead of hurricane and wildfire season, the carrier said Thursday. “T-Mobile’s Enhanced Self-Organizing Network (SON) uses real-time data and AI to detect issues and adapt automatically, ensuring more reliable connectivity before, during and after disasters,” it said.

T-Satellite with Starlink has already delivered more than 500,000 messages and 140 wireless emergency alerts during recent hurricanes and wildfires, T-Mobile said, and its emergency operations centers “now use Dataminr integrated into Everbridge to better detect severe weather and infrastructure threats in real-time.” It also said it's adding “larger and tech-loaded” satellite cells on wheels and on large trucks, “the largest and most capable in T-Mobile’s fleet that provide more coverage than existing trucks.”
