House Bill Seeks Sanctions Against Certain South African Officials
Reps. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, and John James, R-Mich., introduced a bill April 3 that would direct the administration to identify South African government officials and African National Congress leaders who should be sanctioned for human rights abuses or corruption.

The U.S.-South Africa Bilateral Relations Review Act, which was referred to the House Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees, would also require a review of the U.S.-South Africa relationship.
The lawmakers said their bill would support President Donald Trump’s Feb. 7 executive order, “Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa,” which accuses the South African government of fomenting violence and discrimination against the country’s white minority landowners. The lawmakers also said they're concerned about South Africa’s growing ties to China, Iran, Russia and terrorist groups.
