Reintroduced House Bill Aims to Block Undersea Cable Exports to China
Rep. Tom Kean, R-N.J., reintroduced a bill March 31 that would require the administration to develop a strategy to block China and other “foreign adversaries” from buying goods and technologies to build, maintain or operate undersea cables.

The Undersea Cable Control Act envisions unified export controls among the U.S. and its allies and partners to prevent China from expanding its control over the world’s undersea cables, which are critical to international communications.
The bill was referred to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which is scheduled to consider the measure April 9. The full House passed the proposal in the last Congress.
