Houthi Sanctions Bill Reintroduced
Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., reintroduced a bill March 5 that would authorize sanctions on the Yemen-based Houthis for human rights abuses, including unlawful killing, torture, prolonged and arbitrary detention, enforced disappearance, hostage-taking of U.S. nationals abroad, use of child soldiers and gender-based discrimination.

The Houthi Human Rights Accountability Act was referred to the House Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees. The Foreign Affairs Committee approved the bill in the last Congress (see 2409240065).
The Trump administration recently redesignated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, subjecting the group to additional sanctions (see 2503040008).
