The Sanction Russian Nuclear Safety Violators Act would sanction entities and people who have endangered the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine. Meeks is concerned about the safety of the plant, which Russian forces have shelled and damaged during their invasion of Ukraine. The House Foreign Affairs Committee approved the bill in May, during the previous Congress (see 2405160062).
The No Russian Tunnel to Crimea Act would sanction foreign persons who contribute to the construction, maintenance or repair of tunnels or bridges from Russia to the Crimean Peninsula. Meeks is concerned that such projects could “entrench Russia's illegal annexation and strengthen its military supply routes,” a press release says. The full House passed the bill in September (see 2409100024).
