Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, who introduced the Protecting Americans from Russian Litigation Act in September, said Russian litigants are suing U.S. companies for closing down their operations in that country. The companies are leaving Russia to comply with export controls and sanctions the U.S. government imposed in response to Russia’s February 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

Hunt said his bill would provide the same legal protection that companies in the EU and the U.K. enjoy. His legislation now heads to the Senate for its consideration.
