Census Offers Tips for License Code, Unit of Measure Errors in AES
The Census Bureau emailed tips on how to address the most frequent messages generated this month in the Automated Export System.

Response code 512 is a fatal error for when the filer didn’t report a required license code or license exemption code for the item’s Export Control Classification Number. The filer should verify the license or license exemption code, correct the shipment and resubmit.
Response code 626 is another fatal error for when the Schedule B/Harmonized Tariff Schedule Number reported requires a unit of measure, but the unit of measure is missing. Census said the Schedule B/HTS Number reported “requires the Units for 1st Quantity to be reported.” The filer should “verify the unit of measure for the 1st quantity,” correct the shipment and resubmit.
