Cardin Opposes Proposal to Block Arms Sales to Israel
Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Ben Cardin, D-Md., said Nov. 20 that he opposes legislation to block the transfer of offensive weapons to Israel.

Cardin said that while the U.S. should help address the humanitarian crisis that Palestinians are experiencing in Gaza following Israel’s military operations against Hamas, it should also continue helping Israel defend itself against “active and deadly threats,” including from Iran and its proxy groups.
The Senate was expected later in the day to vote on three of the six joint resolutions of disapproval that Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., offered to block arms sales to Israel (see 2409300064). The three involve bomb guidance kits, mortar rounds and tank ammunition. Sanders has raised several concerns about Israel, including about civilian casualties in Gaza.
