Lawmakers Urge France to Resume Arms Exports to Israel
A bipartisan group of 18 House members called on French President Emmanuel Macron this week to reconsider his recent decision to halt arms deliveries to Israel. The lawmakers said the Jewish state needs allied support to defend itself.
“Your comments to halt arms and weapons deliveries to Israel will further embolden Iran and its proxies to escalate their attacks against Israel, undermining the state’s right to defend herself and her citizens,” the lawmakers wrote in a letter to Macron. “We strongly urge you to reconsider your position and instead focus on diplomatic efforts that enhance democracy and security in the region.”
The letter was led by Reps. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., and Joe Wilson, R-S.C.
Macron’s move is reportedly intended to push Israel to end its war with Hamas in Gaza, as well as discourage fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
