State Dept. Approves Military Sales to Taiwan, Japan

The State Department approved possible military sales to Taiwan and Japan, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Oct. 25.

The sales to Taiwan include a $1.16 billion "National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System" along with related equipment, and $828 million of "AN/TPS-77 and AN/TPS-78 Radar Turnkey Systems and related equipment." The principal contractor for the first sale will be Raytheon, and the U.S. Air Force will procure the radars in the second sale.

The sale to Japan includes $113 million of "Subsonic Sea-Skimming Aerial Targets," follow-on technical support and related equipment. The principal contractors will be Kratos Defense, Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin.
