OFAC Sanctions Iranians for US Election Interference

The Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctioned an Iranian military official and six employees of an Iranian cybersecurity company for interfering in the 2024 and 2020 U.S. presidential elections.

OFAC said Masoud Jalili, a member of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and other IRGC officials have accessed and leaked data from officials and advisers to a 2024 U.S. presidential campaign since May. Jalili also has ties to “malicious cyber operations” targeting a former U.S. government official in 2022.

The agency also sanctioned employees and executives of Emennet Pasargad, an Iranian cybersecurity company formerly known as Net Peygard Samavat Company, which tried to interfere in the 2020 U.S. presidential election. The designations target Ali Mahdavian, Fatemeh Sadeghi, Elaheh Yazdi, Sayyed Mehdi Rahimi Hajjiabadi, Mohammad Hosein Abdolrahimi and Rahmatollah Askarizadeh.
