Senate Democrat Defends Biden Admin on Iran, Points to Sanctions Increase
Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, denied claims that President Joe Biden has been too soft on Iran, saying the Biden administration has imposed more sanctions on Iran than its predecessor.

“There are more sanctions levied against Iran today than under the Trump administration,” Murphy said at an Atlantic Council event this week. “The Biden administration inherited the sanctions that were put in place by the Trump administration and have added to those sanctions.”
Republican lawmakers have accused the Biden administration of inadequately enforcing existing Iran sanctions and moving too slowly to implement newly enacted ones. The administration has defended its record (see 2408270054, 2408060036, 2408140052 and 2408150049).
