Canada Lobbying for Exemption From Trump-Proposed 10% Global Tariff
The Canadian press noted that Canada is working to convince officials that might serve in a future Trump administration to spare Canadian goods from a global 10% tariff, but former U.S. trade representative Robert Lighthizer, who recently traveled to Canada, has said Canada won't necessarily be exempted.

Canadian Ambassador Kirsten Hillman said during a panel hosted by Politico and CNN at the Republican Party convention in Milwaukee this week: "We're talking to Trump's advisers on this. We are really urging them to consider what the implications would be," according to a report from the CBC. She said that if the tariff is imposed, Canada would likely retaliate, and she said, imposing a 10% tariff on some U.S. imports in retaliation "is not particularly constructive."
