Jacobs said “the U.S. must use all the leverage we have to stop the UAE from funding” Sudan’s civil war, which pits the RSF, a militia group, against the Sudanese Armed Forces. She said the UAE's involvement in the conflict "has contributed to horrific levels of violence, bloodshed and suffering in Sudan."
The bill’s original co-sponsors are Reps. James McGovern, D-Mass.; Joaquin Castro, D-Texas; Barbara Lee, D-Calif.; Jonathan Jackson, D-Ill.; Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Calif.; Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, D-Fla.; and Dan Kildee, D-Mich.
