BIS Fines Pratt & Whitney for Violating Antiboycott Regs
Pratt & Whitney Component Solutions has settled with the Bureau of Industry and Security and will pay $48,750 to resolve violations of the agency’s antiboycott regulations, according to a Sept. 6 order. BIS said that the settlement stemmed from Pratt & Whitney's failure to timely report multiple requests to engage in restrictive trade practices and furtherance of an unsanctioned foreign boycott.
While Pratt & Whitney was engaged in the sale and transfer of aircraft parts from the U.S. to Qatar, the company received 13 requests from the Qatari government between 2019 and 2020 not to import Israeli-made aircraft parts into the country. Those requests should have been reported to BIS's Office of Antiboycott Compliance as a foreign boycott against a country friendly to the U.S.
Pratt & Whitney filed a voluntary self-disclosure, and admitted to the BIS allegations under the settlement.
Pratt & Whitney said that it was "pleased to have reached a satisfactory resolution and [we] are committed to compliance with U.S. antiboycott laws and regulations" after it "voluntarily self-disclosed this matter to the Department of Commerce and cooperated with OAC during its review."
