Bill Requiring More Sanctions on Haitian Politicians Passes House

The Haiti Criminal Collusion Transparency Act, a bill that requires the State Department to report on ties between criminal gangs and political and economic elites in Haiti (see 2302140049 and 2303280040), and asks the administration to impose sanctions based on what it finds, passed the House by voice vote July 25.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, ranking member Rep. Gregory Meeks, D-N.Y., and two other co-sponsors hailed the bill's passage, saying the U.S. "must hold these corrupt individuals responsible for their support of criminal behaviors and prohibit their free travel and activities in the United States."
