North Korea Should Be Held Accountable for Continued Missile Testing, State Dept. Says

The U.S. is discussing with other U.N. Security Council members whether to impose more sanctions on North Korea for its continued ballistic missile testing, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said. Price said the agency isn’t “going to get ahead of any steps that the U.N. might take” but called the missile launches “an affront to multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions.”

“We do think that accountability is important,” Price told reporters May 5. “We do think it’s vital that the international community, our allies as well as partners around the world, send a very clear signal to [North Korea] that these types of provocations won’t be tolerated, they won’t improve its strategic positioning, and the world will respond.” North Korea most recently fired a ballistic missile toward the sea off its east coast last week, Reuters reported.
