Russia Bans 9 Canadian Officials From Entering Russia Over Alexey Navalny Sanctions
Russia imposed a travel ban on nine Canadian citizens for their roles in placing sanctions on Russia for its arrest of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a June 7 news release. Canada's sanctions are unlawful and have "contributed to the deterioration of our bilateral relations," the release said.

Russia's responsive sanctions were levied against David Lametti, justice minister and attorney general; Anne Kelly, Correctional Service commissioner; Brenda Lucki, Royal Canadian Mounted Police commissioner; Marci Surkes, executive director-policy and cabinet affairs for the Prime Minister's Office; Dominic LeBlanc, minister of intergovernmental affairs; Jody Thomas, defense deputy minister; Mike Rouleau, defense vice chief of staff; Brian Brennan, Royal Canadian Mounted Police deputy commissioner; and Rear Admiral Scott Bishop, commander of the Canadian Forces Intelligence Command.
