Raab’s comments came during a House of Commons session in which several members advocated for sanctioning China for human rights violations in Hong Kong. Lisa Nandy, a member of Parliament and shadow foreign secretary, said the U.K. has “been waiting for Magnitsky legislation for two years now” and urged the country to impose sanctions on “those who breach human rights in Hong Kong.”
MP Alyn Smith said the U.K. should “open active consideration of targeted sanctions against China,” including Chinese companies operating in the U.K. “It is quite obvious that only internationally concerted action will bring China to account,” Smith said.
