Google Rebrands as Alphabet
Google is revamping its corporate structure, placing itself under the auspices of the new Alphabet holding company, CEO Larry Page said Monday in a blog post. Page is now Alphabet CEO, with Sergey Brin as the holding company’s president and Eric Schmidt as its executive chairman, Page said. Sundar Pinchai, previously Google’s product chief, is now Google CEO, Page said.

“This frees up time for me to continue to scale our aspirations," Page said. " I have been spending quite a bit of time with Sundar, helping him and the company in any way I can, and I will of course continue to do that." The restructuring will leave Google “a bit slimmed down,” but “we believe this allows us more management scale, as we can run things independently that aren’t very related,” Page said.
Alphabet will encompass all of the core Google businesses, including YouTube and Google’s search and maps functions, along with previously separate entities like Google Fiber and Nest. Alphabet will replace Google as its publicly traded entity, though its shares will continue to trade on Nasdaq as GOOGL and GOOG. The rebranding will allow other Alphabet-owned companies to “have independence and develop their own brands,” Page said.
Google didn't immediately have any further comment Monday. The company made an SEC filing on the move, as well.
