2. USDA Announces that Another Canadian Cow Tests Positive for BSE
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has issued a statement announcing that a six year, nine month old cow has tested positive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE, also known as "mad cow disease"). 3. Federal Register Notice on USTR Rejection of Two China Currency Petitions
The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has published a notice in the Federal Register stating that it has determined not to initiate Section 301 investigations with respect to two petitions addressed to the valuation of Chinese currency, as such investigations would not be effective in addressing the issues raised in the petition. (According to the USTR, one petition was filed by the China Currency Coalition on September 9, 2004; the second petition was filed by the Congressional China Currency Action Coalition on November 12, 2004.)
