FAA Slowly Making Progress on Sanctions Data Checks, GAO Says

The Federal Aviation Administration has made some progress in developing an approach to routinely check Office of Foreign Assets Control sanctions data and flag sanctioned people and entities across its aircraft registration and dealer systems, the Government Accountability Office said April 9.

“Developing new processes and queries to conduct analysis against OFAC sanctions data is expected to take an additional six months,” the GAO said. “We will continue to monitor FAA's progress in this area.”

The GAO recommended the approach in a March 2020 report (see 2004060014), and the FAA agreed to implement it.
