OFAC Restricts Types of Computers Authorized Under Iran General License

The Office of Foreign Assets Control is updating the scope of an Iran-related general license to limit the computing power threshold for laptops, tablets and other personal computing devices that can be exported or reexported to Iran. BIS Hires Deputy Undersecretary

The Bureau of Industry and Security has named Eric Beane deputy undersecretary, he announced May 17 on LinkedIn. Beane was most recently senior vice president of regulatory and government affairs at software company Unite Us, and served on Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo's staff during her previous role as governor of Rhode Island.

K&L Gates Adds 2 Former DLA Piper Trade Attorneys as Partners

Former DLA Piper trade attorneys Nate Bolin and David Allman joined K&L Gates as partners in the antitrust, competition and trade regulation practice, the firm announced. The two lawyers will focus on national security law matters, including export controls and sanctions.

Senate Confirms FMC's Maffei, Dye Years Later

The Senate on May 14 retroactively confirmed the ongoing terms of Daniel Maffei as chair of the Federal Maritime Commission and Rebecca Dye as FMC commissioner. Maffei's term expires June 2027 and Dye's term expires June 2025. Neither FMC official had their appointment confirmed by the Senate at the beginning of their current terms.
